Since the Soviet intervention, trade and economy in Afghanistan has been in turmoil. However during the civil war (1992 2001), industry and agriculture had been totally endowed to the criminal trade and economic activities. Poppy cultivation is the main source of income in the country, while wheat, rice and other necessities of life are being imported from Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan and Kazakstan. At present, Afghanistna has no functioning economy. The cities have been virtually destroyed and the country’s infrastructure is to be built from scratch. The author has highlighted not only the growing economic progress in Afghanistan, but trade and economic opportunities as well.
